- As I've said somewhere else, the problem was software. If you treat the Zip Drive as a
- tape drive, in the manual it says to use the command "gvpscsictrl 005 DCOFF" (if Zip is
- unit 5 obviously). I've put this in my startup sequence and it has completely cured the
- problem. Apparently it turns off synchronous transfers when the Zip drive is
- accessing. I can't see any performance difference other than the fact it doesn't crash
- anymore. ;-)
-
- Perhaps this will help others??
-
- The icon file says version v 4.5, but a hex read of the device says v4.13. Take your
- pick.
-
- By the way, can anyone explain what the gvppatch program (from aminet) actually does
- (the docs are in German). Do I need it now that my system is absolutely stable? I am
- still disappointed with the 650k(ish)/sec from the Zip drive, though. Anyone know a
- cure?
-
- Thanks to HISOFT technical help, for pointing me in the right direction...
